How We Started Our Business

Work

by Janet Little / Ashley Prymas

The Little Plucky

Growing up in Kansas, Janet received her Bachelors and master’s in education from the University of Kansas and taught for 30 years across the country and the world. Her husband and she started collecting art in California and continued to fuel their passion while living in Europe. Janet has always loved original, fine art and found joy in choosing a piece with her family at accessible price points during their many travels. When she moved back to the States, she began studying ceramics at Silvermine Arts Center in New Canaan, CT. It was also at this time Janet began thinking about a life change and starting a new career.

Ashley spent most of her career working in marketing for museums like the Guggenheim, Cooper- Hewitt and The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, CT. Over the years, she noticed that people were enormously interested in buying art but didn’t quite know where to begin or would ask for her help to look for art because they were intimidated by galleries. Wanting to make the art-buying process more approachable and fun, she founded PLUCKY in 2019. After the pandemic, she was ready to relaunch her business, at which point Janet enthusiastically offered to partner with her, recruiting many of the artists she met at Silvermine. In 2022, PLUCKY was renamed The Little Plucky.

The Little Plucky now represents 30 women artists, supporting their careers and bringing their art into clients’ homes. Its mission is to support women artists by bringing original, one-of-a-kind art into the spaces people live and work at an accessible price point. Because that’s what Little Plucky is all about – making art fun and personal without being intimidating!
