Less than 1/3 of OBGYN residency programs have a menopause-related curriculum. Over 80% of program directors say their program needs more resources to teach it. (Menopause Journal, 2023) If you’ve spoken to your doctor about symptoms, how do you feel the conversation went? If you haven’t spoken to your doctor, what are some reasons why?

  1. About to walk into my GP visit tomorrow and if it goes as “well” as last time, I’m done with her. Same with mental health. I’ve been brushed off continuously. Guess I need to go in there crying and talking crazy! I’ve been trying to establish consistent care for a while but just feel like a number.

    1. If you’re willing to share, I’d love to know how your conversation went today. Hopefully better than the last. Good luck!

  2. My GP at least said she didn’t know much about menopause symptoms and treatment and said I might want to talk to an OBGYN who focuses on menopause. Friends have told me the stories of being completely ignored by their GP. I did find an OBGYN who has spent time getting additional training to focus on women aging. It was a great conversation and she quickly fixed my symptoms.

  3. The Menopause Society has a list of providers trained in perimenopausal+ symptoms (https://menopause.org/). But my friend has an appt with one of the doctors listed here and still wasn’t happy with the conversation.
