What feels different about summer at this stage of your life?

  1. As my kids gets older, I find myself counting down how many summers we have left as a nuclear family – totally irrational and anxiety producing. On a different note, summer feels HOTTER than usual #hottestflashes

  2. For so many years, summer was a chore – keeping small kids busy when I wasn’t working and trying to find enough camps to keep them busy when I was working. Now that they’re grown, summer is so much fun again. Traveling, eating, playing grown up board games together. Love it.

  3. Way more freedom! Kids can drive, have jobs and we can travel and go out whenever as a couple or as a family. Although, having a college student at home in the summer changes the dynamic in the house ie. more laundry, dishes, etc but I LOVE IT! It’s fun to reconnect and see how mature he is getting!

  4. Along with the freedom in terms of time commitments, there is also the freedom of paying far less attention to how I look – bathing suits, getting a tan, how can I make my hair look decent in heat? I mean of course I care, but just a little 🙂

  5. When kids were home summer planning had to be done by March or you missed “the good camps” and couldn’t afford plane tickets for vacation. Now summer just arrives and I’m trying to live more seasonally – a little bit of an instagrammy thought, but it feels right. A garden helps!

  6. It’s the last summer before my oldest heads off to college, I’m finding myself filled with regret. I’m spending so much time grieving what we didn’t do, haven’t done, or can’t redo before he leaves, and I’m just sad. Sending love to all the other college-bound moms out there! <3

  7. This summer I am loving spending time with my children, enjoying the young adults they have become. I am trying to leave in the moment and not think beyond the present. I am trying.

  8. A friend from Californina recently posted on her instagram a great meme….it was something like, “Forget hot-girl summer…..I want old-lady summer….drinking coffee all day, tending to my garden, reading good books”….that’s where I’m at this summer, and I have to say, loving it! Except for the odd summer storm day where I miss playing board games with my kids all day…I’m embracing this “old lady summer” – taking care of my garden, reading, out on the water – just my husband and me on the boat…it all feels so peaceful and special. The years with children at home are busy, wonderful, anxiety-provoking, too fast, and I know the years to come with grandkids around my home in the summer will be amazing, and I’m truly looking forward to that, but I’m really relishing this in-between summer time, for now. For me it is pure peace.
